Gathering data on Nutrition and Child's Growth

iHeal's CEO, Ms. Romita Ghosh, recently traveled to Rajasthan to collect data for the development of their Nutrition Monitoring Platform MAAP. The visit included training ground school teachers, parents, and caregivers on nutrition and growth monitoring, while following a set standard operating procedure to ensure data privacy and confidentiality.

During the data collection process, interesting observations were made, such as children expressing their birthdays in unique ways, such as one girl saying hers was a month after everyone else's, which turned out to be in June rather than December due to the academic year ending around May for school-going children. Another observation was that even twins had different Z-scores for height-to-weight ratio, indicating the role of diet, nutrition, and other factors in growth and development.

500 children were screened on the first day of the visit in Jodhpur, with more to follow in other regions of India. The collected data will be used to train Maap's algorithm for higher accuracy.

During the data collection process, the Maap team encountered some concerning information. One child was found to be bringing two choco pies for lunch every day, which is not a balanced or nutritious meal. In another incident, a teacher had to address the entire class about avoiding unhealthy snacks like Maggi and chips in their tiffins. Ms. Romita, emphasized the need to be aware of marketing gimmicks used by various companies that sell unhealthy snacks and supplements. It is crucial to read the fine print of ingredients and ensure that children's brain development is not compromised.

The Maap team is dedicated to creating a revolutionary app that empowers individuals and healthcare professionals to take timely and effective corrective actions to address maternal and child nutrition deficiencies. With the support of their team, Maap is committed to traveling across India to make their vision a reality.
